A handshake is a ritual of imitation that signals equality and peace. Breaking its rules ever-so-slightly reveals the extent of our mimetic impulses.

Covid-19 has threatened the survival of the handshake. (It turns out that a handshake is not very hygienic, and most of us have gotten used to elbow bumps or Namaste gestures anyway.)
